The landscape of Africa is changing at an exponential pace. Over the next decade, the world’s largest and youngest workforce will emerge with signs pointing to a vastly unexpected and non-traditional path for the future. The continent has its challenges, but successful design solutions require a deeper understanding of the uniqueness of what is driving change in Africa.
Africa appears to be leapfrogging past traditional development plans; simply integrating Western or Eastern solutions into Africa is insufficient for effective adoption. Africans embrace new technology and apply trust and social networks to it, all while advancing Africa’s infrastructure and digitizing healthcare.
Helga Stegmann of UX consultancy, Mantaray (South Africa), will present on-the-ground research across Sub-Saharan Africa to unearth the market nuances. Good design involves understanding the needs of Africans in order for solutions to make an impact in people’s lives.
This is a good news story: in solving Africa’s problems, could we be solving some of the world’s biggest concerns, in an abundant and interesting way? Now is the time.
